Huron-Bruce MPP - Carol Mitchell
Ontario has a new agriculture minister as Premier Dalton McGuinty announced sweeping changes to his cabinet. Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell has been promoted from the backbench to become Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Mitchell replaces Leona Dombrowsky, who was named Minister of Education.
Born and raised in Clinton, Mitchell was elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. She first served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture. Subsequently, she served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal.
In her 12 years in municipal government, Carol was on Clinton council and was reeve of Central Huron. She was the first warden of Huron County to serve two terms in more than 100 years.
Upon graduation from college, Carol worked in retailing. She started her own business and opened stores in Clinton and Bayfield, specializing in children’s clothing. She ran her own business for 10 years.
